💻 MTMS Digital Skills Studio (DSS) Frm. Computer Applications | 6th Grade | Cycle Course 

Digital Skills Studio (DSS) is a hands-on cycle course that introduces 6th-grade students to essential digital literacy, computational thinking, and career readiness skills aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for Technology and Career Readiness. Through engaging, project-based learning experiences, students explore how technology supports creativity, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving across academic disciplines and real-world contexts. Students develop foundational skills in digital citizenship, online safety, information literacy, and responsible technology use while engaging in activities such as introductory coding, digital design, multimedia creation, and data analysis. The course also promotes career awareness by exposing students to technology-driven career pathways and emerging industries. Digital Skills Studio empowers students to become confident, responsible, and adaptable digital learners, preparing them for future coursework and success in an increasingly technology-rich learning environment. 

🎶General Music | 6th Grade | Cycle Course 

The Monroe Township School District and the Department of Fine & Performing Arts, Physical Education & Health offer a Grade 6 General Music Cycle course that builds upon the foundational skills developed in elementary music. This course meets every other day for one class period during one marking period and expands students’ musical literacy, performance abilities, and creative expression.

Instruction focuses on the Elements of Music including rhythm, pitch, form, dynamics, tempo, and timbre, all while strengthening note-reading skills and introducing basic music theory concepts. Students apply these skills through ukulele performance. The course also introduces digital music, allowing students to explore music technology, basic composition, and creative production. Through performance, analysis, discussion, and composition, students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and confidence, supporting continued musical growth at the secondary level.

🛠️ Industrial Arts | 6th Grade | Cycle Course 

Industrial Arts is a 6th-grade cycle class focused on developing foundational workshop skills in a safe and structured environment. Students practice accurate measurement, sketching, and the safe use of tools and machines while engaging in creative, hands-on activities. The course builds confidence, responsibility, and an understanding of how ideas move from design to construction.

⚙️ Design & Modeling (PLTW-DM) | Course Code 711 Frm. Transportation Technology | 7th Grade | FY

Design & Modeling is a hands-on STEM course that introduces students to the engineering design process through creative problem-solving, technical modeling, & real-world applications. Aligned to the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway units of study, students will explore how engineers & designers develop innovative solutions using sketching, measurement, 3D modeling, & prototyping. Students will also engage in design challenges that strengthen spatial reasoning, teamwork, communication, & critical thinking while learning to create & test models using both traditional drafting techniques & digital design tools. Emphasis is placed on iteration, precision & the connection between design choices & functional outcomes. This course supports career exploration in engineering, architecture, product design, manufacturing, and emerging technology fields while building foundational skills for future STEM pathways. Through authentic design projects, students strengthen career-ready practices aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for 21st Century Life & Careers.

🤖 Robotics, Coding & Digital Innovation (PLTW AR) | Course Code 806 Frm. Multimedia | 7th Grade | FY

Robotics, Coding, and Automation is a hands-on STEM course that introduces students to robotics, coding, and automation through creative problem-solving, computational thinking, and real-world applications. Aligned to the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Automation & Robotics units, students will explore how engineers and technologists design, program, and control autonomous systems using sensors, actuators, coding logic, and mechanical components. Students will engage in collaborative design challenges that strengthen problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking while learning to build, program, and refine robotic systems. Emphasis is placed on iteration, precision, and the connection between coding and functional outcomes. This course supports career exploration in engineering, computer science, robotics, manufacturing, and emerging technology fields while building foundational skills for future STEM pathways. Through authentic robotics projects, students strengthen career-ready practices aligned to New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Science and Technology, Standard 9.

🎥 Media & Television Production | Course Code 811 | 7th Grade | FY

7th Grade TV & Media Production is a hands-on course for students interested in the technical & creative aspects of video storytelling, broadcasting & digital media. Students will develop foundational skills in camera framing, movement, lighting, audio, & studio production while learning industry-specific vocabulary & roles. Students will also explore scriptwriting using the two-column television format before producing, filming, & editing original content. Projects include PSA’s, commercials, promos & news reports, how-to videos & school media features. Learners will gain experience using production equipment in both the studio & the field, with opportunities to create live-to-tape segments using the school’s control room. This course encourages creativity, collaboration, communication, & career exploration in media, journalism, marketing, & digital communications. Through real-world production work, students strengthen career-ready practices aligned to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for 21st Century Life & Careers.

🥗 Culinary Arts | Course Code 809 | 7th Grade | FY

Culinary Arts will explore the fundamentals of food preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen safety & nutrition through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. This course emphasizes the development of practical culinary skills while encouraging students to think critically about healthy choices, food systems & personal wellness. Through collaborative cooking labs & creative recipe development, students will strengthen key 21st-century life skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving & responsible decision-making. Learners will also examine how culinary arts connect to real-world careers in nutrition, food science & entrepreneurship. Students will also develop habits that support independence & lifelong success. By the end of the course, students will gain both the confidence & foundational skills needed to make informed choices as consumers, community members, & future-ready learners.

📸 Digital Photography | Course Code 725 | 7th Grade | FY

In Digital Photography, Students will explore the basic elements and principles of art and photography. We will explore the DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera. Students will learn how to effectively use all the settings for successfully shooting in Manual Mode. Students who enroll in this course will use hands-on activities to capture images that are creative and well thought-out. Along with learning the parts of the camera, students will also be exposed to the creative process of editing. The Adobe Camera Raw & Adobe Photoshop software will be utilized as the means for editing. 

🎨 Studio Art (2D) | Course Code 807 | 7th Grade | FY

This course is designed around the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.  Students will have the opportunity to experience different approaches to a variety of artistic media and techniques.  Most of this class focuses on the creation of two-dimensional works (drawing and painting), while further developing perceptual awareness, critical thinking skills, and a general understanding and appreciation of the visual arts.  Additionally, this course integrates a study of various artists throughout the year.  In addition to creating art, students will learn how to analyze, discuss, and write about it as well.

🎶 Chorus | Course Code 802 | 7th Grade | FY

Chorus is a performance-based class that focuses on reading music, singing a variety of styles, and strengthening vocal production. Students can sing solos and participate in ensembles outside of school, such as Region Choir, Honor Choir, music festivals, and competitions at Six Flags Great Adventure, Hershey Park, or Dorney Park. Previous singing experience is not needed – all are welcome! This class does require participation in occasional after-school rehearsals and evening concerts. Students are permitted to participate in both band and chorus, but should speak to the directors of both groups before signing up. 

🎭 Theater Arts | Course Code 815 | 7th Grade | FY

Students will be introduced to the art of theatre by nurturing an appreciation of the art and how it can be utilized as a tool for self-realization.  Students will begin to explore theatrical elements, principles, and conventions to develop their own acting skills as well as with their peers. Units will explore script and character analysis, theatrical problem solving, improvisation, performance as well as exploring the essential roles in creating a theatrical production. Throughout the course, students will work on developing social skills, confidence, and the ability to work well with others in an artistic environment. 

🥁 Band | Course Code 900 | 7th Grade | FY

The 7th and 8th grade band elective at MTMS is an exciting course to be a part of, and the next step for any student currently enrolled in our outstanding band program! Student classes are organized by instruments, and in addition to concert preparation, students are involved and receive training in music theory, music history, ear training, sight reading, music appreciation, and instrument maintenance. Percussionists can also perform with our renowned Percussion Ensemble. Participation in the Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble enables students to audition for our 7th and 8th-grade Jazz Band. In addition to their in-school class time, students are expected to attend zero period one morning per week for a full ensemble rehearsal. In addition to the concerts, students will participate in band festivals and competitions, including one full-day trip to either Hershey or Dorney Park!  Enrollment in the 7th and 8th-grade band elective is the best way to prepare students to be part of our nationally recognized Monroe Township High School Band Program.

In Computer Science & Design, students will explore the fundamentals of computer science, digital design, and computational thinking through hands-on, project-based learning. Aligned with the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway AP Creator module, this course emphasizes coding, app development, user-centered design, and problem-solving. Students will learn to plan, prototype, and program interactive applications while applying logical reasoning, debugging strategies, and design thinking principles. Projects include developing functional apps, creating digital solutions to real-world challenges, and collaborating on team-based initiatives. The course also introduces students to career pathways in computer science, software development, and technology innovation, fostering technical literacy, creativity, and habits that support independence. Students will demonstrate confidence in coding, digital design, and applying computational solutions, preparing them for advanced STEM and technology coursework.

💡Fundamentals of Engineering | Course Code 715 | 8th Grade | FY

In Fundamentals of Engineering, students will explore the principles of engineering, design, and problem-solving through hands-on, project-based learning. This course emphasizes the application of math, science, and technology concepts to real-world challenges, reflecting the interdisciplinary approach of the MTSD Science and Career & Technology Departments. Students will engage in engineering design processes, prototype development, and testing, using industry-standard tools, materials, and digital design software. Projects may include structural engineering challenges, robotics, renewable energy models, and mechanical systems, encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and innovation. The course also introduces students to potential career pathways in engineering, architecture, robotics, and applied technology, fostering habits that support independence, technical literacy, and lifelong learning.

🎬 Media & Television Production | Course Code 815 | 8th Grade | FY

In 8th-grade Media & Television Production, students will expand their technical and creative expertise in video storytelling, broadcasting, and digital media. This course builds on foundational skills in camera operation, framing, movement, lighting, audio, and studio production, while deepening students’ understanding of industry-specific terminology and professional roles. Learners will advance their scriptwriting skills using the two-column television format and apply them to producing, filming, and editing original content. Projects may include PSAs, commercials, promos, news segments, how-to videos, and school media features, with opportunities to work both in the studio and on location. Students will also engage in live-to-tape productions using the school’s control room, gaining authentic broadcast experience. Through collaborative projects, critical problem-solving, and creative experimentation, learners will strengthen 21st-century skills such as communication, teamwork, and digital literacy. The course emphasizes career exploration in media, journalism, marketing, and digital communications, fostering independence, professional habits, and readiness for future academic and career pathways.

👩‍🍳 Culinary Arts | Course Code 810 | 8th Grade | FY

In 8th-grade Culinary Arts, students will deepen their understanding of food preparation, advanced cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and nutrition through dynamic, hands-on learning experiences. This course emphasizes the refinement of practical culinary skills while challenging students to analyze and make informed decisions about healthy eating, sustainable food systems, and personal wellness. Through collaborative cooking labs, creative recipe development, and real-world problem-solving activities, students will strengthen essential 21st-century skills, including communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and responsible decision-making. Learners will also explore the connections between culinary arts and professional pathways in nutrition, food science, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. Additionally, students will cultivate habits that foster independence, organization, and lifelong success in and beyond the kitchen. By the conclusion of the course, students will demonstrate increased confidence and mastery of foundational culinary skills, enabling them to make thoughtful choices as consumers, community members, and future-ready learners.

💻 Graphic Design | Course Code 720 | 8th Grade | FY

In this course, we will explore the basic principles and elements of graphic design and visual communication. The history of graphic design, typography, and color theory will be emphasized using computer programs Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop CS5. Visual elements such as photographs and illustrations will be integrated to create appropriate and aesthetic solutions for print media. This course will provide practical experience in essential studio processes and procedures, critiques, and group discussions.

🗿 Fine Arts & Sculpture | Course Code 808 | 8th Grade | FY

This class will focus on the beginning levels of three-dimensional (3D) design. Students will apply and build upon any previous knowledge related to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, and relate them to three-dimensional works of art. A variety of artistic media include but are not limited to working with clay, plaster, wire, and various other materials. Students will be introduced to three-dimensional modeling tools and techniques and will learn how to approach essential technical concepts in planning, building, and forming three-dimensional works. Additionally, this course integrates a study of various artists throughout the year. In addition to creating art, students will also learn how to analyze, discuss, and write about it.
